The origins of the city of Nessebar, located on a small peninsula in the Black Sea, dates back to 3.000 years ago as a Thracian settlement with the name of Menabria.
In the 6th century BC it became a Greek colony, and was taken by the Romans in 72 BC. With the disintegration of the Roman Empire in 395 AD, the city came under Byzantine rule. The city was under Turkish rule between 1453 and 1878.
Nessebar has also typical old wooden houses from the 19th century.
