Cologne Cathedral, Germany

In 1164 the bones of the three Magi were transferred from Milan to Cologne, and a shrine was made to house the relics. As Cologne became one of the largest Pilgrimage of the Middle Ages, it was decided in 1248 to build a new cathedral in High Gothic style. In 1322 the consecration took place, and construction continued until 1560, when it was halted. It was not until 1842 when construction works resumed, and in 1880 the cathedral was finally finished.
