Changdeokgung Palace, or Palace of Prospering Virtue, located in the capital city of Hanyang (Seoul), was built in 1405 during the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).
The palace is laid out and adapted to the uneven topography, in order to harmonize with the environment.
Changdeokgung Palace was the royal residence and the seat of government until 1872.
